Trek Safety

Before Leaving

A safe trek is a fun trek. So, before leaving for the trek anywhere, the first important thing to consider is to acquire as much local information. Information regarding weather, trails, political situation of the destination, services catered throughout the trails and trek highlights among others should determine trekker’s decision whether to undertake the trek or not. In addition, for our trek safety, it is important to review the itinerary carefully. Picking up the trek that does not suit your preference, walking ability and time might end up with the disappointing holiday, where you lose a significant amount of money, time and effort. Next important thing trekker needs to do before heading out for the trek is to pass the complete details of the trekking destination to a relative or the nearest kin or friends.

Trekking alone has so many pros, but sometimes undertaking a solo trek can be the decision trekkers might regret on. Nepal is a safe destination for the solo trekker in terms of safety issues other than altitude mountain sickness, which eventually is the biggest life-threatening aspect of high altitude trek in Nepal. Making attempts to have someone in the group or joining the fixed departure group heading for the same trek can be a wise idea. At the least accompanying the guides from reputed trek operators can be the best option if you prefer trekking as a lone guest. Trekking with some company helps you to get emergency rescue and every other necessary help required during the trek in Nepal

Before selecting a company from the pool of trekking companies in Nepal or abroad, do some thorough research. Make sure that the company you want to trek with is a reputed company and has a credible name in the industry. Individual treks are never safe and most of the causalities that happen during the trek are with trekkers trekking alone. Get the help of a travel company to ensure your trek safety.

To be able to trek in Nepal, it is mandatory to have a travel insurance policy. Your policy should cover all your medical expenses, helicopter evacuation, and trip cancellations. Talk to your insurer for extra guidance regarding the policy. Additionally, talk to your travel company to seek their help regarding choosing the right policy. Our website has a list of insurance companies our clients generally work with.

Once you are in Kathmandu, you can get all the necessary gears for the trek. Outlets in Thamel that sell and rent you trekking gears are affordable price are plenty. It is even better if you already have the gears. Your travel agent should be able to help you do the necessary preparation for the trek. Make a checklist of things required and make sure to get every item to ensure a safe trek.

During the Trek

For your safety during the trek, you have to take care of some small things. If you are trekking at high altitudes, it is advisable that you abstain from alcohol and tobacco. Nicotine patch can be helpful for smokers who cannot quit smoking. Using sleeping tablets during your trip is not advisable for the safe trek.

You could be inviting accidents if you swim in Nepalese rivers. The rivers in Nepal are dangerous and quite unpredictable to worsen the matter. If you are not a good swimmer, do not try swimming. In addition, even if you are good at swimming, it is better to resist your temptation to swim. Nepal has various extreme sports opportunities. We suggest you to not to take part in those activities during the trek. If you have to, indulge in those activities after the trek.

Amazing Nepal neither permits nor suggests doing so to any trekkers.

What do we do to ensure trek safety?

During your trek, your guide and other trek staff are the ones who will be in your proximity in case of emergencies. It is thus important that they get basic medical assistance training. Amazing Nepal recognizes the importance of having the trekking staff properly educated about ways of providing necessary primary medical assistance. In that the trails of Nepal mostly take you at much higher altitudes, Altitude Mountain Sickness can be common. It is important to identify the symptoms of AMS as early as possible to ensure you remain healthy. Our guides and staffs are experienced enough to identify those symptoms at an early phase.

Altitude Safety Training: Altitude Safety Training is all about learning ways of adapting at higher altitudes. We provide such training to your staff and so they are always in a position to suggest and assist you to acclimatize with the altitude.
