What is Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek? Home to Home Treks at 12 Days Only.

Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek is the shortened form of Classical Everest Base Camp Trek, especially for those who have limited time and budget in Nepal but still want the thrill of the Himalayan trip. This customized version trip provides you with an equal thrill as any other Everest Base Camp Treks. Rapid Everest Base Camp Trek is shortened to 12 days (home to home) from Everest Base Camp Trek - 16 Days. If you are fit enough to walk at least six-seven hours a day then this trek would be a perfect choice for you. This trek is specially designed not only keeping in mind that you are short on time and money but also appropriate physical fitness and previous trekking experience. With the desire and dedication, you can have the pleasure of amazing Himalayan outlooks and classic Sherpa culture/tradition.

A short scenic flight (30min approx) from Kathmandu takes you to Lukla, where you commence your trek to Phagding. The sluggish climb resumes through some little Sherpa settlements in the Dudhkoshi river valley, suspension bridges and Sagarmatha National Park, which also includes lush rhododendron forests; to the beautiful Sherpa town Namche Bazaar. Visiting the ancient monastery at Tyangboche gives an opportunity to experience Tibetan Buddhism and its vastness. The alpine landscape becomes more rugged as the trail reaches above the tree line on moraines to Gorakshep via Lobuche. A challenging walk to Everest Base Camp over the Khumbu glacier moraines gives the great experience ever in a lifetime. And the panoramic view from Kalapathar will stay in your memory forever. Spend a rough night at Gorekshep (5,160m) then return back to Lukla by following the same trail that we took before to conclude the adventure journey. The next early morning flight brings you back to Kathmandu.

Accommodations and Meals:

You can plan this trek as ‘Lodge to Lodge Trek’ also known as ‘Tea-House Trek’. The lodges on the trail are quite basic. Most of them have squat-style toilets unless some of the lodges with Western-style toilets or attached bathrooms with hot showers in the major villages. Showers offer usually warm water and most lodge-owners will charge you for use of a hot shower.

You can order meals from teahouses and have a choice of meals from the menu card. All food and daily needed things have been carried up there by porters or donkeys. Thus, as you go higher up, the price of meals and drinks will be more expensive.

Wifi and Telephone in the Everest Base Camp Trek:

Some lodges do have access to the internet but at an extra cost. If you want to communicate with your family or friends, there is an ISD phone available in some of the teahouses which also takes a little bit of extra money. Local Mobile Phone/SIMs also work on some parts of the trail. NTC and Ncell SIM card are more convenient to buy and have more coverage in the region.

Trekking Crews:

Government-registered trekking agencies can help you book guides and porters by purchasing their tour package or giving them some commission. Trekking agencies have their policies, they might ask for a partial deposit in advance and pay the remaining upon arrival in Kathmandu. Going with a registered trekking agency is more secured and hassle-free. They are also responsible for insurance for their staff.

Acclimatization:

As stated earlier, this trek is designed without any acclimatization days. We know the particular location you need to stay for rest, and the particular distance you need to walk slowly and so on. In case you get high altitude sickness, we have crews who know how to deal with it effectively and smartly.

How to respond to Altitude Sickness?

  • Please do carry a first aid kit
  • Please consult your physician
  • Please keep on informing our crews if you feel uneasy
  • Please do walk in the group so that you can help each other

Travel Insurance:

We would like to recommend you get your trekking insured. Since you are trekking in probably one of the wildest and most challenging routes, you need to be cautious of anything inevitable. You may need helicopter evacuation and get your trip canceled. You may get injured and get your baggage theft and so on.

Flight Delay in Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu

Twin Otter and Dornier is the primary mode of transport to and from the airstrip at Lukla. This service is fairly dependable. Sometimes, flights (to and from Lukla) may be canceled due to mountain weather conditions or technical problems. In such a case, Amazing Nepal will charter a helicopter to ensure you are on schedule for your international flight. The helicopter can fly if the visibility is 1500m, while the twin otter can fly if the visibility is 5000m, as per Nepal’s Civil Aviation rules.

The cost of the helicopter is payable directly to our Kathmandu office in the event that this service is utilized. US cash, traveler’s cheques, or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards only) are accepted. You will be given a receipt upon payment so that you may claim the amount from your travel insurance. The minimum cost will be US$500 and a maximum US$3500 depending on the number of group members.

It is recommended that you should arrive in Kathmandu a day earlier before you start your trek. When you arrive a day earlier, you will have time to rest as well as time to buy trekking equipment. Similarly, it is best to have some extra days after you have finished your trek because your flight to Kathmandu/Lukla might be canceled due to bad weather. So all together it is recommended to have a few extra days beside the trip schedule so that you don’t miss your International Flight.
